Children and Community: Satellite Pines Connection with Still Moon Arts Society

Published on
May 3, 2026

Like many of our most memorable experiences, our relationship with Still Moon Arts Society began with a simple, unexpected encounter over a year ago. During one of our walks to Renfrew Ravine, we wandered on a path toward a garden and met a caretaker tending to the overgrown blackberry bush. He told us about the natural Dye Garden and his work with Still Moon Arts Society - an organization dedicated to restoring the Still Creek Watershed through art and community engagement.

As our relationship with the ravine grew, so did our relationship with Still Moon Arts Society. We were invited to collaborate with their artist, Carmen, to create signage that highlights the many species that depend on the creek. One of the dependents is chum salmon. Just a few weeks ago, a group of children had the meaningful opportunity to take part in a salmon release at Renfrew Ravine, an experience that highlight the delicate cycles of life that the creek supports.

It feels like a full circle moment. The ravine introduced us to Still Moon Arts Society, and through this partnership we are learning what it means to practice reciprocity with the land – discovering the connections between people, place and the shared responsibility that grows as our relationship with the land deepens.
