Some of the children in the Kids World School Age program have recently taken up interest in fundraising. What started as a casual jar to collect money for a local food bank turned into a collaborative event! The group started by advertising within their own program by emailing the families, gathering the other 70+ children and informing them of the cause, finding ways to draw them in and use their likes and skills to add to this fundraising event. On the provincial wide pro-d day, the children booked the parking lot at Frog Hollow, broke out the popcorn machine and got to work.
The original group set out tables and chairs and offered popcorn and lemonade by donation. They invited other offsite programs, such as Village and Nootka school age to attend.
Many of the other children in the program found ways to get involved, some crocheted small creations, some made small books/comics, some wanted to be serving staff for the popcorn and lemonade.
They had community members stop by to support the cause, bringing so many people together on a beautiful sunny day.
In the end, they raised $500 for a local food bank, and are intending to continue their fundraising efforts long term, thinking of other causes that they are passionate about.
