Keep the Promise Campaign

Published on
May 3, 2026

May is Child Care Month, and to mark this important time, our childcare programs are stepping out into the community to celebrate and advocate for child care. Our goal is simple but important: to show appreciation for our educators and raise awareness about the current state of child care in British Columbia, and why it matters to everyone.

Child care is essential. It supports families, strengthens our workforce, and provides children with safe, nurturing spaces to grow and learn. While the $10‑a‑day child care program marked meaningful progress toward affordability, recent provincial budget updates have paused its expansion. This means no new $10‑a‑day spaces are being added, even as demand continues to grow and waitlists remain long.

At the same time, early childhood educators continue to face challenges with wages, workload, and retention, putting pressure on the entire system. These realities remind us that while progress has been made, there is still more work to do.

Throughout May, we invite you to take actions to support this important work and say thank you to those everyday heroes who provide care to our little ones.

On Wednesday May 13th, our Frog Hollow educators, children, and families will be taking part in community walks and local gatherings as part of the Keep the Promise campaign. These events aim to spark conversation, raise awareness, and encourage community members to support child care by signing petitions and writing to decision‑makers.

Our Frog Hollow educators will be out in neighbourhoods across Vancouver on that day, if you see us, give us a wave or a honk!

If you’d like to join a walk or come cheer us on, please contact Candice at candice@froghollow.bc.ca.

Together, we can help ensure a stronger, more sustainable child care system for families, educators, and future generations.
