On October 28, Frog Hollow’s Seniors Knitting Group welcomed volunteers, youth and staff from the Chinese Community Policing Centre 華人警訊服務中心 – 溫哥華 and Hastings Sunrise Community Policing Centre to have an intergenerational knitting workshop over lunch and coffee.

“There is no in-person knitting class for seniors in China town area at the moment,” says Joshua, the Project Coordinator of the Chinese Community Policing Centre. “Knitting Group at Frog Hollow is a great place for older adults to get together. We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate in this event”

Seniors from our Knitting Group are so happy to know their knitted goods are appreciated, especially that they are to be used for a good cause. “Our seniors were shy and humble when I first asked them to share their knitting skills,” says Manda, who has run Frog Hollow’s Knitting Group for years, “After some encouragement, they were willing to give it a try. I am so glad to see them having a good time with the volunteers, teaching knitting skills with such a passion.”

The intergenerational collaboration has sparked friendship among the participants. Two volunteers from the Chinese Community Policing Centre who participated in the Knitting Intergenerational Connect ended up joining our weekly Seniors Knitting Group at Frog Hollow the week after.

Over the past weeks, Frog Hollow Seniors’ Knitting Group has made a total of 123 knitted goods, including 59 scarves and 64 toques. All of these goods will be distributed during CCPCP’s annual warm package drive for communities in the Chinatown and Gastown areas.
