Arts & Care Kits to support Senior Mental Well-being in Pandemic

Since June 2020, we have been sending out Arts & Care Kits to elderly adults and isolated seniors around Great Vancouver.

We created Art-making Kits that included supplies needed to paint, such as paintbrushes, paint pallet, watercolour paper, etc. Moreover, Card-making Kits were made to include blank cards, stamps, glue, stickers, and etc.

In collaboration with BC Association of Community Response Networks, we sent out Care Kits on World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (June 15th) that included educational handouts on preventing elder abuse; recreational supplies such as Bingo and colouring books; as well as knitting supplies such as yarns.

A total number of 25 kits were sent out in the month of June.  In the months of July and August 2020, we have begun to send out Gardening Kits alongside the Arts Kits and an additional 13 kits were sent out to seniors in the neighbourhood. We continue to create kits and send them out to seniors during this time.

This initiative is part of supporting mental well-being for seniors during the pandemic, funded by New Horizon, City of Vancouver, and United Way.
