The Village @ Lord Nelson School Age program

Please note:  We are now operating the 1st floor School Age program (located in school’s multi purpose room) which was previously run by the Nelson Child Care Society.  You can also find our contact on the school’s website. We have acquired the existing wait list from the Society, and for anyone new wanting to apply, please fill out the waitlist on our website and click on the school age program at Lord Nelson.

Embracing the Reggio Emilia approach, Frog Hollow Neighbourhood House provides exciting innovative children’s programs in a rich caring atmosphere.

At the beginning and end of each school day children from the school come together and are given the opportunity to play, interact with friends, have fun, and receive encouragement based on the Reggio Emilia approach. Our educators are deeply committed and dedicated to providing a high quality school aged program.  They believe in equal learning opportunities and see themselves as the children’s research partners.

Project ideas and invitations based on observations and discussions are offered to children while further observation and documentations continue.  This interactive and reflective process provides children with open-ended projects that will allow them to experience learning that is unique and individualized.

Children at our program are offered:

  • a nutritious snack in the afternoon
  • variety of natural and open-ended materials to explore
  • equal opportunities to speak their thoughts & test their ideas
  • project-based learning opportunities based on their own interests and theories
  • community opportunities for encouraging exploration and compassion
  • local field-trips
  • outdoor play and exploration opportunities in our playgrounds, local parks and in the neighbourhood

The Village School Age program is an inclusive, bias-free environment in which children’s thoughts are respected equally and incorporated highly in the foundations of the program.

*Please note, due to the high volume of wait list applications, we are unable to respond to individual inquiries regarding where your child is on the waiting list and anticipated enrolment date.

Please note: All of our spaces for this program are full.  As spaces become available, we will contact people who are on the waitlist starting with our internal children.

Our waiting list for this program is extremely long and priority for these spaces goes to internal children moving to next age group and siblings of children in our other programs.
